Early Years Bridging Project ECE Qualified Family Support Worker

Richmond Family Place Society is a Family Resource Program that serves families with children 0 – 12 years old.

We have a mission to ‘Ensure Every Child in Richmond Reaches Their Full Potential’. We facilitate this by empowering & strengthening children & families through innovative prevention & support programs.

Part Time (Permanent):
28 hrs per week:
Mondays: 9am-4.30pm
Tuesdays: 1.30pm – 7.30pm
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 10am – 4pm

Salary:
$22.45/hr

Please note: This position IS NOT eligible for the government ECE wage enhancement

Job Description:

As part of a dynamic staff team, the Family Support Worker participates as a team member contributing their ideas, skills and enthusiasm to further the mission of Richmond Family Place.

This position works as a Family Support Worker in the Early Years Refugee Project, to coordinate, implement & deliver family resource programs & supports families through information sharing, referrals and education to refugee families and their children 0-6 years old.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting and supporting the delivery of the Early Years Refugee Project
  • Provides family support, employing early Childhood Development principals, in the Early Years Refugee Project programs including information, education & modelling appropriate behaviour & interactions for caregivers while facilitating age appropriate play between caregivers & children.
  • In conjunction with the staff team provides Early Childhood expertise to help develop, coordinate and deliver programs including literacy programs, special events and outdoor play
  • Provides assessment, referral and one to one support for families as needed.
  • Provides support & guidance to new families wanting to access the Early Years Bridging Project.
  • Maintains and develops good working relationships with community partners & agencies.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate statistics and report on all family support programs.
  • Fundraising as determined by Executive Director
  • Attends Richmond Family Place annual events as required
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Certification/Diploma. Early Childhood Assistant certification may be considered with a minimum of 2 years practical experience with children 0-6 years old.
  • Second Language an asset.
  • Experience working with parents/caregivers & their children birth to twelve years of age & an understanding of child development for this age group an asset
  • Ability to create trusting & meaningful relationships with community partners & families with children 0-12 years old.
  • Experience working in & promoting a multicultural setting.
  • Experience working in community partnerships.
  • Proven working knowledge of community resources & referral processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal & written.
  • Ability to create professional boundaries with clients.
  • Flexible & able to organize workload.
  • Strong ability to manage stress.
  • Takes initiative: sees what needs to be done.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Up to date First Aid & Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be available for some evenings & weekends
  • Must have valid drivers license & use of own vehicle during work hours
